Let’s Discuss Retreat Safety…

With so much going on the world- war, disease, natural disasters, it’s of the utmost importance to consider how you will keep your retreat participants safe. Let’s discuss some tips to keep in mind when setting up your retreat:

1.) Before you decide on a location, check the US, Canadian, UK and Australian travel advisory boards to get a birds-eye view on what’s happening somewhere. If all 4 advise against traveling to a location- look elsewhere.

2.) Make sure you get travel insurance! I have my clients sign terms and conditions stating that they acknowledge I’ve strongly recommended travel insurance and have given them options to look into.

3.) Before you leave, make copies of your passport, visa, travel insurance policy, the emergency contact information of your participants, their lists of medications and allergies and the contact information of the US (or wherever your live) Embassy.

4.) When you arrive at your retreat center, talk to the manager about their evacuation plan in case of a fire or flood, find out what their sister hotel is in case that happens and also where the nearest hospital is.

5.) I like to download a copy of the local map on my phone in case I lose access to WiFi, as well as the local language on Google Translate.

While there are many things to consider and keep in mind when planning a retreat, safety is number 1. Your students will appreciate your efforts to prepare and this trust is what creates continued connection and repeat business.
