One of the biggest sources of concern for new retreat leaders is whether or not they will lose money. Itโs one the most common reasons why some people donโt take the plunge- I get it!โฃ
โฃ
In order to reserve space at a retreat venue, you need to put down a deposit- it goes towards your final bill at the end, so I always look at it like Iโm โgetting it backโ at the end.โฃ
โฃ
Myself personally and many clients that I work with, tend to gravitate towards venues with lower deposits. However, some venues want you to put down a percentage, which can come out toโฆlotsa money.โฃ
โฃ
So how can you get some piece of mind when putting down thousands of dollars towards your retreat?โฃ
โฃ
If youโre offering something domestically, you can get whatโs called โEvent Insuranceโ. There are lots of companies that offer this and itโs pretty straight forward.โฃ
โฃ
Now, if youโre going internationally: you can obtain travel insurance and purchase it within 14 days of putting down your deposit so you can take advantage of โCancel Anytimeโ insurance. Some reputable places include: Travelguard, Good Allianz, Tinleg and Squaremouth. This will help you recoup most of your money if something happens.โฃ
โฃ
If youโre working with a venue that requires you to make payments along the way (theyโre usually non-refundable)- I would require my clients to purchase travel insurance. Youโll see with my clientโs retreats, I require people to purchase it for some and not for others (because I donโt have to pay them until the very end).โฃ
โฃ
While the first retreat is a little bit of an investment to get up and running, once you hit your minimum number of needed sign ups, then you can start planning the next one 6 months later and rotate through two a year. After the first one, things flow much more easily.โฃ
โฃ
That being said, I have never personally lost money on a retreat because Iโve always been consistent and clear with my marketing and thatโs really the secret sauce. Now itโs my passion to show others how to do the same..โฃ
